OK here we go, in months past there were several of us warn that this would happen.

So, all you in-active OPEA members I suggest you get on board to keep your job.
Instead of a raise now, everyone needs to step up to save our job.

Tell your friends forward the e-mail OPEA sent for a call to action to everyone in your office…your job depends on it!

Hey Fattcatt: Did you realize that the Director of the Department of Human Services gave his entire execuitive staff HUGE raises? Look on openbooks.gov for the agency heads of the following offices Civil Rights, Office of Inspector General,Office of Client Advocacy and Administrative Services. One of these heads got at least $700 more per MONTH while we have state workers who are eligible for food stamps, and day care benefits!!!

Tell me the Truth - Call your legislators - let them know what is going on. Let them hear that there are behind doors raises going on. Heck there are Senators who are giving their staff big raises while we all go hungry. But if we don't speak up and speak out we will certainly continue to get steamrolled right out of our jobs.

Tell me the truth,

That is all the more reason we need to stand up and be heard. Yes I did know that the Director of DHS gave his entire execuitive staff a raise along with, Brad Henry's staff, the Legislators’ staff and most of ODOT got very nice raises.
All the more reason why we should all be pissed, stand up for ourselves and take action!
All these people got very nice raise’s this last year and it looks as if all of us other employee’s are going to pay for it with our jobs.

I would like to add that if we did not have OPEA at the Capitol everyday representing State employees, no one would have known anything about the RIF's and furloughs until they walked up to you and say your fired.

Thank you OPEA for being on top of this.

What is it going to take for them to tap the rainy day fund? We are losing employees every month for lack of money and if they cut any more staff we can't provide essential services. Would public outcry from the people we serve make any difference? It makes me sick to see these really highly paid execs get the money that would make such a difference to us and our families.. Wake up somebody up there......

Bottom line, if state workers and their families don't call, email and write their state senator, their state rep and the gov's office, agencies will see drastic budget cuts. How those agencies handle the cuts will likely be up to the agency heads and boards. I'm speculating that some agencies will do furloughs, some will RIF and some will do a combination.

Services will be cut in addition to workers' hours or jobs.

I know the folks who frequent this website make those calls and email. That won't be enough. It will need to be a large number of members and non-members to get the message across.

There are those who talk a good game and those who act....i just got off the phone w/ my state rep. He called me after I emailed him...don't know if it will help but at least i got to say my piece.

A State "Employee Flu" (Blue Flu) would get their attention however; on Lobby day not even 200 employees showed up to try to get a raise this last year...it questions how many would participate with a "Employee Flu" to save their jobs over, all the work they will soon not have to do. To walk off the job at this point would be mute being, the point is to save our jobs not walk away from them.

Can we finally all stand together to save our jobs?
I hope so, for I fear this time it will be a much deeper cut than 1700 job losses back in 2003.

Brace yourselves peeps this could get very ugly!

I have an idea starting with the legislative pay raises. They should be returned. Than another legislative pay raise should not be voted in unless by the people. We should decide if they have earned a living increase. Just as we do. Yes I say blue flu, there isnt a state employee that has not been waiting for word on this.

What do you expect, we're a Republican State now, they care nothing about State employees, that should be obvious by now.

I emailed Representative Peters (Human Services Subcommittee) to ask about the raises that occurred with almost every division head in DHS and was told the agencies themselves made the decisions about the raises- specifically the executive staff who were the only state workers to see any raises. How can this be happening and workers are threatened with furloughs and RIFS?

Services should be cut first. The administrative budget at most agencies is not where the big money is at. If my agency laid off every single employee, that money saved would only provider services for 2 calendar days.

Yes this really sucks and then they put in so call benefits on our statement such as Worker's comp this is a federal law if you work for anyone you must have Workers' comp it is not a benefit it is a law. And then the slap in the face to get all this booklets on counseling and drug abuse. Maybe the media needs to know big wig get big raise while they tell us we might get pay cuts etc. Shame on you

While we all appreciate your concerns and comments, you need to be on the phone to your legislator and the Governor's office saying these things to them. Those of the folks that make the difference. OPEA staff is at the Capitol working hard for us but we need to give them the support by making those phone calls and sending those e-mails. Most of the time you never talk to a legislator and certainly not the Governor but you can make your voice heard.

Get on Board,

I hope you are not talking to me if so, you need to read the blog a little closer. I have taken action yesterday, today and will again tomorrow.

I walked over to the Capitol today at lunch and personally delivered my letter to Governor Henry's office. While at the Capitol I stopped in and visited with my Senator and Representative...and I must say they did not sound encouraging.

Everyone keep calling, e-mailing everyday and if you can go see them directly give them a face to put with the jobs they are jeopardizing.

If there has ever been any time to speak out and stand up for yourself its now. Everyone needs to step up send all your fellow employee’s the “Call To Action” e-mail that OPEA sent out.
Now is the time for everyone fight for their job or come July 1, you will not have a job to fight for!

Together we can move this mountain!

Shame on the Director of Human Services! Where did all that money come from??? It needs to be distributed among the STATE WORKERS. You can't budget very good handing out hight raises to the legislature staff and others, while the ones working under you are suffering. TO THE PEOPLE,FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE. Does this ring a bell? You won't be happy long, OPEA will win the takes over! I and my emplee friends are speaking out for that raise.

What really agrivates ne is that all these agencies and legislators had oppritunity after oppritunity in the past to fix issues in the agencies and they blew it. However they sure fixed thier personal problems and gave the upper management pay raises, more staff, new cars, re-modeled offices overtime checks, holiday pay and what ever else they wanted to make thier jobs more cuchie. Most agencies policies are dictated by less than thirty people who haven't a clue as to what you go thru on a daily bases. When will the state employee wake up and take a real part in thier agencies functions. Take it back it belongs to you. Don't just blame your self rightous upper management but you need to look at your legislators who don't hold these people accountable.
