DHS: WORKFORCE IN CRISIS

DHS:  WORKFORCE IN CRISIS

Workforce experts nationally have been warning of a workforce crisis in the field of social work for years.  To the OPEA DHS Council, it really comes at no surprise.  What is surprising to the council is that very few DHS employees seem willing to work to solve the crisis.  To take the survey,  CLICK HERE  then go to right-hand column.  To read the rest of the article CLICK HERE

i hate that statement. what do you expect us to do? we are the states red headed step child so to speak. they don't care two hoots about us, how little we earn, or hard we work. answering some question in another survey isn't going to do anything for anybody.

I have thought it was odd since I have been at DHS how people get beat down so easily. People leave the agency constantly but why don't they try to make the difficult situations better? There is a mentality of wanting someone else to tell them what to do. There is anger at the clients and kow-towing to anybody who is a SUPERVISOR! Ooh! I can't understand this but I am sure it is a dynamic that encourages letting everybody walk on you & taking crumbs from the legislature. Actually I think there are a lot of people who like to say-look how wonderful I am, I let everybody kick my b***!

Here is a portion of a quote from Cindy on the News9.com website in regard to DHS: It is a very hard job and they try to do the best they can. The workers get raw deals every day, their job demands that. The ones I know expect it. Caseloads high enough for 2 workers, turnover because of that and the pay is a joke. But they keep coming back and working their butts off with not enough time or days in the week to do this job. I am proud of the ones I know.

Maybe these case workers need some self help books or a new old man-but they definitely need to get some self respect! Accepting poor working conditions & getting a pat on the head for it brings the whole profession down. I am NOT proud of anyone who would act this way. I am ashamed of them. I hope they join OPEA & I hope they get high professional & personal standards for themselves!
