The state employee health insurance rates for the calendar year 2011 will be changed tomorrow in special meetings of the Oklahoma State and Education Employees Group Insurance Board and the Employee Benefits Council.
The agencies responsible for state employee insurance will be reviewing their rates and making changes to reflect a recent Oklahoma State Supreme Court decision overturning the one percent provider fee on insurance claims passed by the legislature in the 2010 session. The fee has been declared unconstitutional by the court.
"This should be good news for the state plans," said OPEA Policy and Research Director Trish Frazier. "OPEA will be pushing for an additional reduction in the co-pay or a decrease in premiums."
At the recent OSEEGIB meeting, the board voted to reduce the co-pay for an office visit from $50 to $30 for primary care. In addition, well-baby and annual physicals for adults and children will be free.
Watch the OPEA website Thursday for an update on the premiums.
