Final talks are taking place on the budget in the next few days at the Capitol. The time is NOW to make your voice heard for your job and the services you provide to the citizens of Oklahoma.
Governor Henry is has publicly stated his position of holding education harmless or to a maximum of three percent decrease and making the remainder of state government shoulder the burden of all the cuts in the FY 2011 budget. While we believe in education, this single function of government is not more important than the services state employees provide daily to the people of Oklahoma. Common, higher and career tech are 55 percent of the budget and cannot be exempt from reductions. Your agency will be cut 10 to 15 percent for the next fiscal year, unless state leaders balance cuts across all functions of government.
State services are the lifeblood of Oklahoma. State employees care for children and the elderly. We ensure public safety and the health of each and every Oklahoman. Our message must be heard, too.
No part of the budget should be held harmless from the cuts. To make it through the next year, Oklahomans must come together in shared sacrifice to protect essential services and our most vulnerable citizens.
Contact the Governor and your legislators today and tell them to take a "share the burden" approach to the state's budget crisis. Call or e-mail your House and Senate members and the Governor today.
