The Northern Oklahoma Resource Center of Enid celebrated 100 years of caring for the disabled October 8. The facility opened in October 1910 as Northern Oklahoma Hospital.
OPEA contributed to the celebration and OPEA staff, Haley Blood and Trish Frazier, attended the event. OPEA Regional Director Jann Ensz served on the planning committee. NORCE employees spent many hours of their personal time fundraising and planning for the event. As part of the celebration, photographs and mementos of the past were collected for a museum of the past 100 years.
“NORCE has been through a lot in the past year, losing much of the staff in budget cuts,” said OPEA Policy and Research Director Trish Frazier. “The staff has gone above and beyond to continue services and prepare for the celebration.”
The celebration was a homecoming for former staff, who returned to visit with old friends and coworkers.
The first structure built at NORCE is still standing and serves as the current administration building.
“Unfortunately, many of the buildings at NORCE and its sister facility SORC, are past their prime and should be replaced,” Frazier said. “NORCE is in the process of opening two buildings to serve as residences for clients.”
"OPEA appreciates being a part of the celebration and looks forward to serving NORCE employees in the facility's second century," Frazier concluded.
