OECU Offers 0% Furlough Loans

The Oklahoma Employees Credit Union is offering financial help to state workers who have been affected by recent furloughs.  Beginning February 1, OECU members can now take advantage of 0% Furlough Assistance Loans.

A 90 day loan of $500 at 0%APR is available for members who have existing OECU checking accounts with direct deposit.  For members who have just joined OECU with checking and direct deposit, the interest is still a low 4.99 % APR.

Besides loans, OECU is also offering low-interest lines of credit.  With an OECU checking account and direct deposit, interest is 9.99% APR.  Without an OECU checking account and direct deposit, interest is 15.5% APR.

"We have been collaborating with the credit union for the past several months," said OPEA Director of Communications Mark Beutler.  "In the fall we worked with OECU to provide new members $100 if they opened a new account.  Now, in light of the furlough situation , we commend OECU for offering this assistance."

In addition, OECU is offering budgeting seminars with helpful tips to help prepare for less income.

Great idea - now just have to figure out how to pay the money that I don't have coming in back. But thank you OECU for at least thinking about the plight of state employees - more than any of the elected officials.

Poorer, my sentiments exactly. Although OECU has made a generous offer, the situation just exposes once again state employee paychecks are shrinking. I've never worked anywhere, save for state government, that did not give an annual cost of living raise.
