The Oklahoma Department of Human Services’ Northern Oklahoma Resource Center in Enid is getting fired up for the legislative session which begins in February. OPEA sponsored a luncheon recently, with much information about the upcoming session and the importance of being an OPEA member in order to facilitate all workers needs at the Capitol.

“I tell people about OPEA because it’s important to me to get the word to everyone who works in state government in order for us all to get on the same page, “ said OPEA Board Member and long time NORC worker Jann Ensz. “It’s the only way you can get anything such as pay raises and benefits being an employee of the state. If you work in state government it truly does behoove you to join OPEA, said Ensz.

“The tenured workers at NORC know what it means to provide sound leadership and direction to new workers by leading them to OPEA,” said Membership Representative Brandon Watkins. “We have a great leader in Jann. She is very tenacious and makes it a priority to tell co-workers, and workers from other facilities about the importance of being an OPEA member and what it means to them, how to get involved, and stay abreast of current events,” Watkins said.

“I am relatively new in the state workforce, coming up on my two year anniversary next month. Remembering when I first started, I assumed my hard work would automatically merit a pay raise,” said Health Information Officer Cindy Hill. “I assumed wrong. It was my supervisor who corrected me, and pointed me towards the only successful venue out there, which is OPEA. She gave me the facts and I made the informed and right decision to join. I have a voice through OPEA, who is working hard to obtain a pay raise on behalf of all state workers, as they have done so many times since their inception. Even if that was the only thing they ever did, I would have been sold!” Hill said. “OPEA does that and so much more with us and I really have a voice in what matters most to me and my family and my future. If you haven’t checked them out yet, I encourage everyone to speak to a member or a representative and empower yourself with a victorious voice!” said Hill.

It’s time state employees take back the control by letting OPEA work for you! Learn more about OPEA and become a member by contacting Brandon Watkins at (405) 524-6764 ext. 208 or visit our website at www.opea.org.
