Oklahoma Weather Prompts Lobby Day Move Inside

Due to the possibility of inclement weather Tuesday, OPEA's annual Lobby Day and Soup Line Rally will move inside the state Capitol, second floor rotunda.

Registration begins at 9 am, followed by the Rally and Soup Line at 11:30.

See you there!

I just took my 15 minute work break and walked over to the capital to register and let my legislators know I am in there district and am a state employee in need of of raise. It doesn't take much time to do this because a raise is more important to me so my break was well spent. See you all at the rally at lunch hour.

Got there at 9:30 and registered. Talked to my Senator and Represenative. Went back to the office with the intent of returning for the 11:30 Rally and then got clobbered by a rush job. I ended up having to work through my lunch hour so I couldn't make it back to the Rally. I really wanted to be there too. Hope that the turnout was good.

Thank you all for coming to the capitol. If more OKC folks did what you all did, we'd get a LOT done. We had members come in on their own dime and of course their own time from Elk City, Tulsa and other parts of the state.

Shame on those OKC state workers who would not take their lunch hour today or anyday to visit w/ their legislators YOUR family's story about how 3 raises in 10 years is impacting your family.

It's hard to argue that state workers are not lazy, when such a small percentage take time to fight for their future and that of their family's.

Thanks to those who do try to make a difference either in person, on the phone or by email. Those who don't, you're welcome on behalf of those of us who are fighting for you too.

Same old story! It will never end! There are millions of dollars in the rainy day funds but they do not want to touch it. They will never pass anything to help us out, as everyone been saying for years, THEY DO NOT CARE FOR US AS WORKERS FOR THE STATE. Its time to go and leave the state empty handed without any workers because that is how they are treating us, they don't care if we leave because they are starving us to leave the state work force.

worker drone - you need to e-mail your representative back and ask "what do you plan to do to help me out". Dont accept a pat answer of sorry - keep pushing our issues. A squeaky wheel will get the grease - make sure you keep being in contact with them. We all have to stay focused on making legislators accountable - dont give them an easy out by accepting "no" for an answer.

Tom,
Don't you mean shame on the state workers that actually KNEW about this rally and didn't attend? I personally hadn't seen any coverage prior to the rally except for this board that is only for members. I don't think OPEA gets the word out to all state employees. Just imagine the show of force if all state workers in OKC showed up - not just the ones that pay dues to OPEA.

My2cents where have you been? OPEA advertised on television in OKC and Tulsa, it was on the cover of my last Advocate and I got dozens of emails from them about it, as well as info at home in my mail. Look around and you'd see it was apathy not lack of advertising!

My 2 cents. Maybe you work the night shift and sleep all day - so we can forgive you for not knowing what is going on in the world. However, if you don't work the night shift maybe you should learn to watch the news and not the reality shows to learn what is happening. I am very glad OPEA has chosen to shut off the web site and other information to non members - You guys can pay your membership dues as well as the rest of state employees who are truly working to make Oklahoma A better place to live and work. So join OPEA and help us with our goals. Gripping about what you don't get is not going to make your life any better, take some action to make it better. Join OPEA.
