A long-time friend of OPEA, General Robert Morgan, has died at the age of 73.
Governor David Boren named Morgan adjutant general in 1978, and he also served under Governor George Nigh until 1987.
"General Morgan was always fair to OPEA," said former Executive
Director Pat J. Hall. "He actually encouraged the association's
representation of Military Department State Employees. Whenever a
problem or a grievance came from that agency I felt comfortable enough
to phone General Morgan direct and attempt to resolve the issue."
Hall says often they were successful in resolving issues, and there was always an open-door policy.
"After General Morgan left state service he was the lobbyist for the
Oklahoma State Troopers Association. OPEA for years had a great
relationship with Bob in that capacity because at that time many state
Highway Patrol personnel were also members of OPEA," Hall said. "Bob
and I would comment that 'he represented the troopers for guns, bullets
and pay, and OPEA took care of working conditions, grievances and
confrontation.'"
Funeral services for Morgan will be held 2 pm Monday, July 7 at the Church of Christ in Wewoka.
