Oklahoma City
– The Oklahoma Public Employees Association has named state representative Mike
Shelton “Legislator of the Year.” The award
was presented this week at OPEA’s annual convention in Claremore.
“Representative Shelton has gone above and beyond the call
of duty for state employees,” said OPEA Executive Director Sterling
Zearley. “He has consistently worked to
call attention to the plight of our members, and fully understands the problems
our state’s workforce is facing.”
Earlier this year Shelton
was among a group of lawmakers who fought for an across-the-board pay raise for
state employees. Later, he spearheaded
an effort with OPEA to change the traditional five-day work week to four days.
“I can honestly say Representative Shelton has the best
interests of our state workers at heart.
Together with OPEA, he is on the front-lines, doing what he can to make
sure our voices are heard at the Capitol.
That is why it is a pleasure to present him this year’s Legislator of
the Year award,” Zearley said.
