It was a day of firsts for OPEA as the association
kicked off its new programs during a meeting with state agencies in Ada July 1.
Both the new Pre Paid Legal dues option, as well as the
current membership drive was covered.
Marilyn Thompson, representative for Pre Paid legal,
spoke to the group regarding the new Pre Paid Legal – OPEA
plan.
“Your association is now offering you a wonderful
opportunity to have legal representation for your family outside of work
issues,” Thompson said. “Our legal plan, plus identity theft, will offer you
complete protection for a small cost.”
For a breakdown of the new dues structure, check the
OPEA website or the latest edition of the “Advocate.”
Executive Director Sterling Zearley also talked about
political and other state employee issues.
“This is an election year and a time for OPEA members to
fight for their rights at the ballot box,” Zearley said. “This is especially
important during tight legislative races.”
Zearley also recapped the recent legislative session and
other association news.
“We need to have a single, unified voice to show these
lawmakers just how serious we are,” he said.
OPEA’s “Blazing Hot” membership drive got off to a grand
start as member Sharon McLanahan recruited three new state workers to OPEA. McLanahan will receive a T-shirt as well as other prizes as she continues to recruit.
New OPEA members included: Sherry Gold, Kathryn Gray, Anita Thomas, Vanessa Sawyers and Laura Benaham.
