With the
big November Election drawing near, OPEA is urging state employees to take
action now!
“State
employees need to be doing several things as the November election is
approaching,” said OPEAPAC Director, Scott Barger. “Number one: make sure you
are registered to vote. Number two: maker sure your coworkers are registered to
vote. Number three: get out and volunteer for the OPEA endorsed
candidates!”
The
deadline to register to vote is Oct. 10.
With all of
the candidates and their running mates now in place, Barger said, there has been
a significant spike in calls from people seeking information about how to
register to cast their vote.
There are a
couple ways to do it:
You must fill out a voter registration application form.
Voter registration applications are available at your County Election Board,
post offices, tag agencies, libraries and many other public locations. You will
be offered a voter registration application when you get your driver's license
and when you apply for assistance at some government agencies. You also may download an application form or send a
request to receive a form by U.S. Mail.
The
application form asks for:
- your name and
address
- your political
affiliation
- your birth date
- your driver's
license number
- the last four digits
of your Social Security number (required if no driver's license)
You must sign and date the oath printed on the form.
When you sign the voter registration application form, you swear that you are
eligible to register to vote.
“With so
much riding on this election cycle, state employee cannot afford to stay home or
not register to vote,” Barger continued. “Some of these elections will mean the
difference in whether or not we can get pay raises and protect our benefits. It
is too important to leave it up to chance.
