State employees across Oklahoma had an extra day to spend with their families at Christmas because an OPEA member presented the idea to the platform. This idea was filed as legislation at the beginning of the 2010 session and made it to the governor’s desk in May.
OPEA members will have an opportunity to see their ideas go to the governor’s desk by participating in the platform process this summer. The first step in this process is meeting and discussing ideas with other state employees in workplaces across the state and regional meetings.
“State employees and retirees are facing serious challenges with the economic downturn and state budget shortfall,” said OPEA Platform Chair Jann Ensz. “Members have an opportunity to see their ideas put into the OPEA Platform and move through the legislative process, possibly even to the governor’s desk.”
OPEA members should discuss ideas for planks with others in their workplace or at a chapter meeting and bring those ideas to regional meetings. At regional meetings participants will discuss and adopt planks to forward for consideration at the Delegate Assembly.
Meetings will be held in OPEA Regions in late May and the first few weeks of June. Click here to view a map of regions. Then find your region in the list below to determine which meeting to attend. Retirees should plan to bring their ideas to the meetings in their area also.
