Fourteen dedicated state employees and retirees gathered in the OPEA office after work on Wednesday evening to discuss issues for the next year that will affect state employees and retirees.
“This was a great turnout for the first Region 5 meeting,” Trisha Parker, one of the Region 5 Directors said. “We are rebuilding the grassroots of the organization and it is encouraging to have members wanting to be involved in shaping the agenda for next session.
Some of the ideas that were presented and passed at the meeting included a COLA for retirees, increasing the amount OPERS pays toward retiree insurance, increasing the amount of money the state puts into SoonerSave, and continuing the fight to protect employees’ privacy, such as birth dates and employee ID numbers.
“I look forward to seeing some of my ideas be come law”, said Sammy Nye, a Region 5 member.
