Region Two Holds Annual Platform Meeting

OPEA members in Region Two gave up their Saturday morning to meet and discuss the OPEA platform for next year. The meeting was held in Lawton on May 15.

“I have been talking with my co-workers about compensation issues in these tough economic times,” said OPEA member Gerald Lawrence Stephens County DHS. “We decided to introduce a platform that would provide state employees with a pay raise linked to a revenue increase of at least three percent.”

Other ideas included reducing the incarceration rate, a cost-of-living adjustment for retirees and stopping privatization of state services. The proposals that were approved will move on to the next phase of the platform process.

“I am looking forward to working with the state employees” stated Swearingen. “We are looking at hard times. OPEA has a plan that will encompass directions of our concerns. Join us in making a secure future for state employees.”
