Representative Scott Inman of District 94 received the “Legislator of the Year” award at the Oklahoma Public Employees Association’s 35th Annual Convention, August 28, in Oklahoma City. The award was presented at the annual awards luncheon. Rumble, the Oklahoma City Thunder mascot, assisted with the program.
Representative Inman was one of three legislators to be honored this year. Representative Lisa Billy and Senator Brian Bingman also received the award.
“Representative Inman’s parents are both state employees and he has been very engaged with OPEA on state employee issues, said OPEA Executive Director Sterling Zearley. “His leadership in the Democrat Caucus ensured that the privatization bill that was voted on at the end of session this year was defeated. He is a great friend to state employees and has been instrumental in pushing state employee issues to the forefront Reps Inman had a 100 percent voting record on OPEA bills.”
Representative Inman has been chosen as the leader designate of the minority party of the Oklahoma House of Representatives starting in November of this year. He was elected in 2006 to House District 94 in Del City/OKC area. He currently serves on the Public Safety and Judiciary Subcommittee on Appropriations; Judiciary; and Veterans and Military Affairs committees for the House of Representatives.
“I studied government when I was in high school and college and I’m a firm believer that when we formed this society we did so because as an individual there are certain things we can’t do for ourselves If we all band together we can accomplish more together than we can apart,” said Inman. “Whether it’s taking care of children or taking care of the elderly or those in the prison system that need to be watched, you step up and say, I’ll take that job. You don’t get paid nearly enough. Sometimes you are slandered in the newspaper. I’ve heard it all my life. What do you do? You get up the next day and do your job. I appreciate you and the hard work of OPEA.”
