Senator Brian Bingman Receives Award

Senator Brian Bingman of District 12 received the “Legislator of the Year” award at the Oklahoma Public Employees Association’s 35th Annual Convention, August 28, in Oklahoma City. The award was presented at the annual awards luncheon. Rumble, the Oklahoma City Thunder mascot, assisted with the program.

Senator Bingman was one of three legislators to be honored this year. Representative Lisa Billy and Representative Scott Inman also received the award.

“Senator Bingman used his leadership in the Republican Caucus to assist OPEA in defeating several bills that would have been detrimental to state employees,” OPEA Executive Director Sterling Zearley said when presenting Senator Bingman the award. “This year, he co-authored legislation for OPEA that would have helped state employees during furloughs. Senator Bingman’s great relationship and willingness to assist with OPEA will help the Association in the future and has earned him this award.”

Before coming to the Capitol, Senator Bingman served as mayor of Sapulpa from 1992-2004 and served in the House of Representatives for District 30 from 2004-2006. He was elected to the Oklahoma Senate in 2006 and currently serves on the Appropria

tions, General Government, Rules, and Transportation committees. Senator Bingman also serves as Vice Chair on the Appropriations Subcommittee General Government and Transportation and as Chairman of the Energy and Environment Committee.

“I treasure something like this, it is really an honor,” said Senator Bingman, accepting the award. I especially appreciate the job that you do. My door is always open. I have enjoyed working with the staff. You have a great team that keeps us in line and keeps us informed.
