Speaker Announces Committee Leadership

The Oklahoma House of Representatives announced the committee chairs for the upcoming legislative session on Tuesday. According to OPEA, the committee assignments are critical in advancing a pro-state employee agenda.

“The Association’s legislative agenda is dependent upon the committee chairs hearing our legislation,” said OPEA Executive Director Sterling Zearley. “We face significant challenges with the budget, preserving jobs and benefits as we move into the next session and to have committee chairs who will listen to OPEA is vitally important.”

OPEA is encouraging local members, chapters and regions to reach out to these committee chairs if they are in your area to make sure they know the needs of state employees as well as OPEA’s legislative goals.

“Don’t wait on the session to start,” said Zearley. “Make contact with these members now and congratulate them on their leadership position. Also take the opportunity to let them know OPEA is represented in their area through hard-working state employees. State employees, who are still on the job in spite of the budget crisis, providing critical state services in their districts.”
