Senate: 405-524-0126 or 800-865-6490
In yet another backroom deal, legislation has been amended to eliminate state employee rights when privatization is being considered by a state agency. SB 1600 (Crain, Schwartz) amends the Privatization of State Functions Act, which OPEA passed in 2001. The statute was originally signed into law by Governor Keating and later modified during Governor Henry’s administration.
Currently, state employees are allowed to compete for their jobs by proposing ideas and changes in programs that would improve efficiency and lower the cost of the current function, when privatization is being considered. Allowing those who are on the front line to make improvements provides an avenue for more efficient use of taxpayer dollars, while preserving quality jobs..
