Throughout the association's history, OPEA leaders have been innovative and creative in meeting the many difficult challenges in their path. This has allowed OPEA to not only survive in an ever changing world, but to flourish.
"The challenges that lie ahead are equally imposing," said interim executive director Scott Barger. "We have an uphill battle on a state employee pay raise and we are also hearing the rumblings of a huge fight over the state employee benefit allowance. I am encouraging every state worker to join with us in OPEA to make sure we have a strong voice with the legislature in this critical year."
Leaders and members from nearly every agency in state government are moving forward with holding meetings in their offices or at other locations to recruit new members and provide information about the upcoming legislative session.
"Proactive state employees are recognizing the danger that is coming," said OPEA President, Billy Moore. "They are not waiting for something to happen, they are getting ready to fight for the benefits we've gained over OPEA's 31 year history."

“OPEA held a meeting in our facility and really opened our eyes to the dangers state employees are facing," said an ODVA member. “Getting a pay raise as well as protecting our benefits should get everyone excited about joining OPEA.”
