The Clouds Part for Public Service Recognition Week Event

Some 650 state employees attended the event

Between two bouts of torrential rain, some 650 state employees braved the elements for food and fellowship as OPEA sponsored its annual lunchtime event for “Public Service Recognition Week.”

“When we started at around 9:00 there was a monsoon-like thunderstorm,” said OPEA Executive Director Sterling Zearley, “but then the weather took enough of a break for us to have a good time.”

Employees were reminded of the association’s May 13 Protest Day at the Capitol.

“How appropriate that we are currently fighting for a dip into the state’s “Rainy Day” fund and then experience these downpours,” Zearley said.

OPEA plans similar events throughout the week in Lawton on Thursday and Tulsa and McAlester on Friday.
