You may be a member who wants to get more involved with OPEA. If you are from Regions Four, Six or Ten, you might consider serving on the OPEA Board of Directors. The board is OPEA’s governing body and meets about six to eight times per year.
Recent elections and member retirements have left four positions vacant on board and these positions will be filled through a process approved in the OPEA policies and procedures in early 2015.
Region Four is comprised of Atoka, Bryan, Carter, Coal, Johnston, Love, Marshall, Murray, Pontotoc and Seminole Counties. Region Six is Cleveland, Garvin, McClain and Pottawatomie Counties and Region Ten is Haskell, Hughes, McIntosh, Muskogee, Okfuskee, Okmulgee and Sequoyah Counties.
It does not matter what state agency you work for. You must live in the region that has one of the vacant seats. A board member must have been an OPEA member for at least one year prior to the serving on the board and cannot hold membership in another state employee organization.
Board members are leaders of OPEA and provide guidance to OPEA staff. They also represent OPEA at statewide and regional functions. They work with their local members to help set OPEA’s legislative agenda.
OPEA will soon send an email all members in the regions where seats are being filled containing the requirements and description of a regional director responsibilities. It will also include an application for the position. Each person who is interested in serving will submit a description of their background and their goals if they were a regional director.
Applications will be emailed to OPEA’s policy director Trish Frazier by 12:00 p.m. January 5, 2015 and the applicants will be interviewed by members of the OPEA board during the January 10th board meeting to select the directors.
