OPEA’s 47th Annual Convention

OPEA’s Annual Convention and Delegate Assembly is a few months out. Save the date for OPEA’s 47th Annual Convention on August 26th & 27th, starting at 6 PM. Members are invited to join us at the Holiday Inn North located at 6200 N Robinson Ave, Oklahoma City, OK, 73118.

Our annual convention is where Oklahoma state employees gather to introduce, debate and amend platform planks for the 2023 legislative session. If you are interested in shaping OPEA’s legislative agenda make your voice heard by joining us at our annual convention. This is a great opportunity to network with fellow state employees, state elected officials, and get a heads up on what to expect for the 2023 legislative session. We will also be announcing the official results of the state president and regional director elections at the convention. Don’t worry the convention isn’t just business. We plan fun activities all evening on Friday. So come meet fellow OPEA members and join the party!

The 2022 convention is a two-day in-person event that will accommodate virtual attendance. Only OPEA members may attend the event in person, but anyone can watch our Facebook live stream. However, Only In-person attendees may participate in the plank debate.

Friday night the 26th, we will have dinner at the hotel, and other activities to be announced that are free for all members and their families. We will begin Saturday with breakfast and then get down to OPEA business at 9 am. There will be a silent auction, door prizes, and more on Saturday. We will honor our award winners during a luncheon Saturday and plan our 2023 legislative agenda.

It only cost $20 to stay at the convention hotel on Friday night for members who attend the convention through the delegate assembly on Saturday. At the end of the convention, OPEA will hand each member present who stayed at the hotel on Friday night, a card to give to the desk clerk when you check out of the room. This card will assure that OPEA will pay for the remainder of your room minus the $20 fee. If members choose to upgrade to a suite, OPEA will pay up to the price of a standard room. OPEA will not pay the cost of any members who leave the convention prior to the end of the delegate assembly on Saturday. There is no cost to attend the convention for those who attend on Saturday only.

Members who are spending the night at the hotel must make their own reservations at the Holiday Inn North located at 6200 N Robinson Ave, Oklahoma City, OK, 73118, and may do so by calling them at (405) 286-4777. Be sure to tell them you are with OPEA. You will need to reserve your room with the hotel using your credit card. OPEA will not reserve a room for you.

Members will also need to provide the hotel with a credit card when they check in to pay for any incidentals. OPEA will not pay for any room incidentals for any members. We will only pay for Friday night’s lodging and applicable taxes minus the $20.00 fee. Attendees who stay additional nights will be responsible for those charges.

There is no registration fee for the convention.  The $20 room will be charged to your credit card that is on file with the hotel when you check out.

This is going to be an informative and meaningful convention. We certainly have work to do getting ready for the 2023 legislative session. But, let’s all get together, plan for OPEA’s future, and have some fun too.

August 26th

6 PM – Registration Opens
6 PM – Legislative Reception Begins

Join us in welcoming our state-elected officials and candidates running for office this year. Take this opportunity to educate the legislature on the diverse jobs Oklahoma state employees do and how they can best support us going forward.

7 PM – Shuttle to Dinner & Entertainment Begins

Our shuttle bus will take attendees to Chisholm Creek Oklahoma City’s newest premier entertainment district and Remington Park.

8 PM – Legislative Reception Ends
12 AM – Shuttle to return from dinner & entertainment stops

 

August 27th

7 AM – Breakfast Buffet Opens
8 AM – Retired Members Breakfast

Those who are retired from the state of Oklahoma and who are members of OPEA, listen up! You are invited to the retiree breakfast at OPEA’s annual convention this year! The breakfast will take place at the Oklahoma City Holiday Inn North, at 8 in the morning on Saturday, August 27th. This will be a great opportunity for you to get your voice and concerns heard! Don’t just stay for breakfast though, this is a great way to meet with other fellow retired state employees. We hope to see you there!

9 AM – Business Begins & Breakfast Buffet Closes

Create our 2023 legislative agenda by presenting, considering, and voting on platform planks submitted by OPEA members. Announce the winners of the 2022 OPEA regional director elections.

12 PM – Lunch
2 Pm – Adjourn
