In response to the press conference on October 17 by two members of the House of Representatives about the Department of Human Services, OPEA issued the following statement:
“OPEA is also concerned with the recent tragic child deaths in Oklahoma,” said OPEA Executive Director Sterling Zearley. “For several months, we have been working with the Speaker’s office and Rep. Jason Nelson on this critical issue. In addition, OPEA members who serve as front-line child welfare workers are members of the Foster Care Improvement Task Force.”
“Already Rep. Nelson, who serves as Vice-Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Services, has spent hours with OPEA members that have dedicated their lives to protecting Oklahoma’s children,” continued Zearley. “We appreciate his interest in speaking with employees from across the state representing both rural and urban settings.”
“OPEA is joining with Speaker Steele and Rep. Nelson in a press conference on Wednesday to announce how the work on this critical issue will continue,” concluded Zearley.
