Special OPEA Region 8 & 11 Elections To Be Held

If you live in Region Eight or Eleven and want to be more active on behalf of state employees and retires, now may be your chance. OPEA will conduct special elections to fill vacant Regional Director seats in Region Eight and Region Eleven. Neither region had candidates file for the positions during the recent election filing period. Region Eight is comprised of Creek and Tulsa counties while Region Eleven is Choctaw, Latimer. LeFlore, McCurtain, Pittsburg and Pushmataha counties. The Region Eight term of office will begin on January 1, 2017 and will run for two years. The Region Eleven term will begin November 1st run until December 31st, 2017.

Regional directors serve on the OPEA Board of Directors which meets four to six times per year and attend important OPEA events like the annual convention and capitol days. They are often the face of OPEA with legislators and other state leaders. Regional directors also work to increase local membership, coordinate local OPEA activities and communicate information to members in their region.

The filing period begins August 15th and ends August 29th. The special election filing form must be received by OPEA via mail or fax no later than 5 p.m. on August 29th.
