Altus DOC Locked In With OPEA 100 Percent!

The Department of Corrections Work Center in Altus is now 100 percent OPEA membership! OPEA recently held a luncheon at the work center where not one, but all of the staff joined the only association in Oklahoma that consistently puts state employees above everyone else.
“I just joined OPEA and I’m glad I did,” said DOC worker Tameron Sessions. Brandon (Watkins) was here all day, he came back the second day, and even came back the following week when he was in town to reinforce the need to be a member. I think he and the other OPEA staff members believe in state employees and what we do. And because of Brandon, I’m also now a believer that OPEA cares about our issues and is very serious about what they do for state employees in general and DOC workers in specific,” Sessions said.
“We had a great time here today,” said OPEA Membership Representative Brandon Watkins. “The members were excited to see me and really helped the cause by speaking to the non-members who were present and telling them the benefits of OPEA and encouraging them to join. It takes not a few, but all of us to really make a difference at the Capitol. Needless to say, I’m ecstatic about everyone joining! They’re taking a pro-active stance in order to better their lives and I’m very proud of each and every one of them,” Watkins said.
Upon OPEA’s arrival, there was a mix of members and non-members, but after OPEA discussed the benefits of what being a member could do for them and relaying the well-documented successes since the inception of OPEA 34 years ago, the people acted upon what they heard and joined.
“It just makes good sense to join an association that puts you as a state employee at the forefront of what they do professionally by making us the priority, not a basketball team or some other special interest,” said DOC Chief Mark Leistner. “I’m a proud member and have been for years and will be for all of my tomorrows,” Leistner said.
The Department of Corrections workers put their lives on the line every day to ensure the safety of Oklahomans, and OPEA puts those workers first.
