The Central Oklahoma Juvenile Center (COJC) Chapter of the Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA) was selected as the 2016 Art Jackson Chapter of the Year. The COJC Chapter members are dedicated to caring for and rehabilitating Oklahoma’s troubled youth who are in OJA custody. The chapter also won the award in 2015.
Chapter members are very involved in the Tecumseh and Shawnee communities which is evident by their participation in a Halloween trick or treat event and conducting a Christmas present wrapping fundraiser at Shawnee Mall. Later this month, they have a very big event planned partnering with Tecumseh and Shawnee police and firefighters to host the inaugural “The Amazing Race in their community.
COJC Chapter Members with Dixie Jackson and OPEA President Jess Callahan
Members of the COJC Chapter attended several of OPEA’s legislative forums to take the concerns of state employees and members of their chapter to our state leaders. To learn about OPEA operations and stay informed about Association business, several members of the COJC Chapter attended OPEA board meetings throughout the year. Chapter members are always present at the new employee orientation classes at their facility and plan an OPEA lunch for these new employees, encouraging them to join the association (usually with 100% success rate).
This award is named for one of OPEA’s founding members, Art Jackson. Art’s wife OPEA past president Dixie Jackson presented the award to the chapter.
