Employees of the state Corporation Commission turned out in droves for a Friday pizza lunch in Oklahoma City, with many choosing OPEA as their voice in state government.
Corporation Commissioner Jim Roth, himself a new OPEA member, spoke to the crowd and shared his thoughts on the value of membership.
“I am still a relatively new state employee, having been at the Corporation Commission for 14 months,” Roth said. “But I firmly believe in the work OPEA does for state employees and I am proud to say I am now a member.”
OPEA Membership Representative Brandon Watkins, along with Deputy Director Scott Barger and board member Tom McDonald spoke about the benefits of membership.
Folks who filled out applications on-site were given an opportunity to spin the new “prize wheel,” with several employees receiving $20 gift cards, as well as other assorted prizes.
“This was one of the best meetings we’ve had,” said Watkins. “It’s clear employees at the Corporation Commission are beginning to realize they need a voice at the Capitol, and with our 33-year-history, OPEA is the way to go.”
