Former Governor Bellmon was a “Friend to State Employees”

Former Oklahoma Governor Henry Bellmon, who died Tuesday, was a friend to state employees, OPEA leaders say.

“Oklahoma state employees have lost a true friend,” said Sterling Zearley, OPEA Executive Director. “Bellmon knew the hard work our public servants face everyday, the long hours and low pay. He will be missed.”

Bellmon was first elected Governor in 1962, and was elected to a second term in 1986. He died at an Enid hospital following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Bellmon was 88.
