Shortly after the podium and sound system were in place on the South Capitol steps in anticipation of the large crowds expected for the OPEA Lobby Day, busloads of state employees began to arrive.
Crowds of state employees arrived early in the morning of OPEA Lobby Day to catch busses from Muskogee, Claremore, Sand Springs, Tulsa and Lawton.
“We had a great time on the bus getting to know each other and talking about the issues that we wanted to emphasize to our legislators,” said bus captain Christie Biggs. “It was worth the effort and a great sharing experience. We had employees from DHS, Veterans, ODOT and OJA all together, fighting for a common goal.”
OPEA estimates that over 200 employees took advantage of the busses, sharing the ride with other members of their association.
The Board of Directors wishes to express a special “thank you” to each of the bus captains who coordinated the efforts, Senora Caldwell, Christie Biggs, Wally Ogunoiki, Reba Robinson and Hank Swearingen.
