Lawton OKDHS Takes Charge

Now this is what we’re talkin’ about! Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better than the day before, the Oklahoma Department of Human Services in Lawton matched the people who joined OPEA the day before at the State Auditor and Inspectors Office! OPEA was there to provide lunch and give vital information to the OKDHS County Office in Lawton where the turnover is high, and now so is the current members list!
“The workers here today have shown me they understand what the grassroots movement is all about,” said OPEA Membership Representative Brandon Watkins. “I explained to them how change is possible through sharing with new workers the many benefits OPEA provides and what a dramatic direct effect it brings. And today, they not only listened, but acted on what they heard me saying,” Watkins said.
“Never before have I actually seen anything like it. The meeting was officially over and I was packing up my stuff when several tenured workers came back into the conference room with new workers in tow in order to sign up,” said Watkins. “They were coming in right after the other telling them what OPEA is all about. You can’t beat that. If every tenured member would practice doing that with every new employee, then a culture of membership would develop which will lead to low turnover, pay increases, and better health plans,” Watkins said.
