OPEA Membership Has Its Benefits

OPEA members have someone with them working to improve state employment, retirement, and state services. Members are also eligible for discounts with Legal Shield, AMBA insurance plans, and AMBA Passport an entertainment discount program exclusively for OPEA members.

Legislative Advocacy

Your agency has multiple lobbyists working to advance their interest at the state capitol, but who lobbies on behalf of the employees who work at those agencies? The answer is OPEA! We work to advance state employee issues at the Oklahoma State Capitol. Since being founded in 1975 OPEA’s membership has introduced every legislative pay raise for Oklahoma State employees. Other notable legislative achievements include expanding the state employee benefit allowance to cover 75% of dependents, establishing longevity pay, creating Employee Assitance Programs (EAP), establishing Sooner save, establishing severance benefits, and establishing the Human Capital Management Civil Service Division to guarantee state employees due process when faced with discipline at work.

Every piece of legislation we bring to the Capitol was an idea brought to us by an OPEA member as a Platform Plank. Then approved by a vote of our membership.

Activism & Networking

OPEA is nothing without our active and retired members. Our members vote on every major decision within OPEA. Members get involved with OPEA by attending our Annual convention to create our legislative agenda. Our members govern our association by voting for Board Representation and Legislative priorities.

OPEA host event throughout the year for members to get involved with OPEA governance & Legislative lobbying. These are great opportunities to meet fellow state employees & Legislative leaders.

OPEA helps develop members into legislative advocates for state employee issues. We teach members how to lobby, interact, and build relationships with legislative & agency decision-makers.

Workplace Advocacy

When an OPEA member is disciplined, receives adverse action, or files a grievance/complaint our professional staff and labor lawyers team up to guarantee our members a fair due process.

When state employees try to navigate adverse actions alone they are working against a handful of agency lawyers. Your OPEA representation evens the playing field.

OPEA can only offer representation to members who have been dues-paying for at least 6 months.

OPEA works to keep you informed about issues that affect state employees and retirees. We cover state employee happenings at the capitol and at your agency.

Free Registration for OPEA Annual Convention

All OPEA members receive free registration for our annual convention. The annual convention, which usually takes place in August, is always a great time and a good way to meet and connect with fellow state employees.
