April’s OPEA Board meeting brought some new faces as well as officer election news and other decisions that will impact the future of the organization.
At the beginning of the meeting, Carrie Croy and Mike Rogers, new Board members from the Department of Corrections were sworn in.
According to Acting President Connie Stockton, the filing for OPEA elections will be in early June, with voting to be held in mid-July.
“All necessary rules and other information will be published as we get closer to the election,” she said. “Those interested parties should watch the website and the ‘Advocate’ for further details.”
In other news, the Board unanimously voted to extend the contract of Executive Director Sterling Zearley through 2010.
“OPEA is in great financial shape, we have an outstanding lobbying effort and our membership is energized,” Stockton said. “The board feels that we are moving in the right direction.”
On a final note, the Board voted to continue the Association’s stance against any potential partnership with competing organizations.
The next Board meeting will be scheduled in June.
