OPEA’s 2017 Gaines Stout Member of the Year recipient is Susan Adams.  She was an active member when she worked for the Department of Corrections and she has continued to work on OPEA’s behalf since her retirement.  She has been a tremendous help to the association by donating both her time and resource.  She comes to the OPEA office to assist staff with organizing files, sorting paperwork and shredding old files. Her help was important  to OPEA especially with a small staff.Technically, Susan is a “retired” member. But as demonstrated by her work for, and commitment to, OPEA, she remains very “active”.

Susan was recognized for her willingness to help with these types of crucial tasks and, when called upon, she has staffed our phone bank for legislative meetings to contact members and inform them of the meetings. At legislative or district meetings, she helps in any way she can. She just doesn’t attend the meeting, Susan is there helping and supporting our association to carry OPEA’s message forward.   She participates in OPEA’s Day at the Capitol, whether working  on behalf of retirees or state employee members. She is there to work and support the mission.

She also  worked hard this year in securing most of the door prizes and silent auction items at this year’s convention. We congratulate Susan and thank her for her hard work on behalf of OPEA and its members. She was presented the award at this year’s OPEA convention at Lake Murray State Park.
