Classified state employees may not raise or handle money for a candidate or party committee, but, according to the State Employee Bill of Rights, they are permitted to participate in the political process in other ways.
The State Employee Bill of Rights is listed in the Oklahoma Ethics Commission rules and applies to all state employees, classified and non-classified, except employees who have power of a peace officer and work for the State Bureau of Investigation and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.
You have the right to:
Register and vote in any election.
Express your political opinion as an individual.
Display political pictures, stickers, badges or buttons.
Serve as an officer or member of party committees.
Serve as a member of a political action committee.
Attend political fundraisers, rallies and other gatherings.
Make a voluntary donation to a committee or candidate.
Sign political petitions.
Serve as an election judge.The few things you cannot do:
Engage in political activity while on work status.
