55J Hosts ERC/OPEA Picnic

OPEA celebrates new Chapter at 55J!

On July 8, 2010 OPEA teamed up with our Employee Recognition Committee to put on an office cookout in celebration of our new chapter. The office has always had a fairly strong membership, and decided to make a stronger commitment to OPEA by forming a chapter on April 15th, 2010.

Traditionally the 55J office has held an office cookout in July. The Employee Recognition Committee who normally funds the cookout was running low on funds and OPEA graciously offered to help cover the cost of the food. Two of the office’s OPEA members volunteered to bring a grill and cook hot dogs and hamburgers. Other office members pitched in by bringing salads, desserts, and side dishes.

Jimmy Durant, Haley Blood, and Scott Barger all came to the cookout and helped field questions from employees about OPEA and membership. The cookout was a success and even helped add a few new members to the growing chapter! As a chapter we are planning a legislative visit and community service event for the end of the month. Although we are a new chapter we are hoping to be able to achieve star recognition at convention.

Many thanks to the continued support from OPEA and its staff!
