Legislative Update: How to Contact Your Elected Officials

By Chancen Flick

The Legislative Session will begin on Monday, February 6, 2023, at noon.  OPEA has prepared our legislative agenda and is prepared to advocate for our members and state employees every day.  Throughout the Session, OPEA staff will be using our social media, membership database, and other contact sources to encourage members to contact their elected officials to either support or oppose upcoming legislation.  Our membership is broad and there are OPEA members in every one of the 77 counties.  If you would like to reach out to your elected officials, here is a quick primer on how to do so…

  • The simplest method is to go to the Oklahoma House of Representatives website.  Here you will see a “Find Your Legislator” link on the homepage.  Select this link.
  • The Form on the next page will ask for your home address, city, state, and ZIP code. This will allow the site to find your specific Legislators.  Once entered, hit “submit”.
  • The site will then list your elected officials for your area. This includes a headshot, a link to their House webpage, and a direct phone number.  Please remember, the first elected officials on the page will be the FEDERAL officers.  OPEA does not work legislation at the Federal level.  Please use the officials listed under “State Senate” and “State House”

And that’s it!  Keep these elected officials’ contact information handy, we have much greater success in advancing state employment when our members reach out to their officials and express their concerns.  If you ever have any questions or need assistance with an elected official, please contact Chancen Flick at chancenf@opea.org or by call/text at 405-808-8181.
